Athlete Identification & Body Marking

Athletes will receive a race bib, bike frame number and helmet number at packet pickup. In addition to wearing the race bib, athletes must have their race number applied by volunteers to their left arm race morning. Athletes are required to show their bib number before they will be body marked. Body marking is located outside the fenced transition area.


  • Only registered athletes will be allowed in the transition area.
  • A bike frame number sticker will be provided at packet pickup. This number must be applied to your front left bike fork before entering transition.
  • Race morning, you will be asked to show your race bib number (provided at packet pickup) to enter transition.
  • Bikes must be racked by the seat on the transition rack, and all equipment (bag, shoe, helmet, etc.) must be contained directly under the bike.
  • No glass is allowed in the transition area.
  • You will need your race bib number, that matches the number on your bike, to leave the transition area with a bike/equipment.

Timing Chip Strap

  • The timing chip/strap can be picked up race morning only. Chip distribution is located outside the fenced transition area.
  • Athletes are required to show their bib number before they will receive a timing chip strap.
  • Athletes are required to wear the timing chip strap (provided by the race), on their ankle throughout the race. NO CHIP, NO TIME, NO RESULTS!
  • If you lose your chip at any point during the race, contact a race volunteer so a new chip can be provided.
  • There is a $75 charge for a lost band/chip.
  • The timing chip will be collected by volunteers at the race finish line.

Completion of the Triathlon (DNF):

If you are unable to complete the triathlon, you must turn in your chip at transition or at the timing headquarters tent, located at the finish line.

Unsportman-like Conduct

Our goal is to provide a safe environment where athletes can achieve their athletic goals. Sportsmanship-like conduct is the expected behavior at Big Creek Tri 31. Athletes conducting themselves in an unsportsman-like manner will be disqualified. Big Creek Tri will be a USAT sanctioned event and will follow USAT rules.

Special Instructions for Athletes Registered as Teams

  • Each member of the team must come to packet pick-up and show their valid ID. No exceptions. (It’s not important that they all come together)
  • Each member of the team must be body marked with their team number and the letter “T” (on their left calf). Body marking is located outside the fenced transition area.
  • Each member of the team must wear the timing chip strap (provided race morning) assigned to the team (one chip per team). The runner will have to wear the timing chip strap AND the race bib (provided at packet pickup). The only location Team Members may pass the timing chip/strap is at the entrance to the transition area. do not block the entrance. It is not necessary for the entire team to remain at the bike rack during the entire race.


There will be medical staff at the first aid tent, located near the park shelter. Medical personnel shall have ULTIMATE and FINAL authority to remove an athlete from the race if the they are judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without risk of serious injury or death. Medical transport of any athlete will result in disqualification.

Lost and Found

Our designated Lost and Found area is at race headquarters. Please check there before leaving the event if you have any missing items. All lost and found will be kept for one month following the event. After that time, they will be donated to a local charity. Contact with any questions.
